It brought tears to my eyes when I read this for the first time, long ago when I was 17. But it’s still wonderful.
It’s one of my fav lines of literature. Billy Shakespeare (and/or his wife, depending on what theories you believe) is a tough act to follow…
There are those fearless individuals throughout history who seemed able to point to what lies out there in the fog - some truth about what it is to be alive and to be human. Socrates was one, Will Shakespeare was another. Thank you all. And may there be many more to come . . .
These are beautifully crafted words. I can only hope I will convey their message as eloquently as they have been wrote. I am playing Prospero in a production of The Tempest and the experience has given me both insight into myself as an actress and as a human being. We all share so much in our experience, and I think people lose sight of that sometimes.
