Friends of mine have teamed up with Montreal’s diva of the decks, Mighty Kat, for some good music and fun in the country sun. Sweet! So you know where to find me the first weekend I’m back in La belle province… Tickets available from baya[at]lebureauofficiel.com

This is one event I’m really sorry to miss. But I guess I can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re in Montreal, you should definitely check it out…
There’s another great artist playing a couple of gigs in Montreal this weekend: Håkan Lidbo. He’s the special guest of Montreal’s Trigger Records for their label showcase at Piknic Électronik this coming Sunday. DJ Mini also has the pleasure of his company this Thursday night…

Given my current uniform of T-shirt and jeans, some of you may be suprised to know that I used to run around international conferences in a suit and tie. Yes, it’s true.
Ten years ago, I was a part of Youth for Habitat II, a pan-Canadian project to include youth voices at the Second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements in Istanbul. We were a very diverse lot, ranging from anarchists to UN geeks like me who had been to UN conferences before and knew the arcane lingo and negotiating procedures.
This spring, I got a group email from two of the participants. They proposed a 10-year reunion get-together in Vancouver to coincide with the World Urban Forum, which decided the timing of this visit West.
So, you may be wondering where all the vacation updates are. Well, I had a few loose ends to tie up with work my first week away, in between seeing friends and the sights. So, for example, instead of blogging whilst taking ferries to and from Vancouver Island and riding the bus up to Whistler and down to Seattle, I was polishing off various writing and translation jobs.
I honestly wonder whether self-employed people who work solo can ever truly be on vacation. On the other hand, I’ve had some pretty spectacular temporary offices while on the road…
Anyhow, now that all the loose ends are taken care of and I’m really on vacation for the next 10 days, expect to see what I’ve been up to for the last week.
